Go to view->show color box.
Select the color yellow from color box.
You can also use the prev_color_key and the next_color_key to
select colors.
Draw the glider.

Watch the glider move by pressing space bar.
Now we are going to try HighLife.
Go to view->show rule table.
Click on the table entry at the first row and the columon with the number 14.

Watch the glider move by pressing space bar.
You should see that the glider also exists in HighLife too.
Draw the replicator.

Watch the replicator replicate.
Now we are going change the state weights.
Select the color white (state 7) from the color box
Go to edit->edit state
a box with the title "edit state" will appear.
Enter the value 1 in that box then click the update button
Select the color cyan (state 5) and make that a value of 1
Select the color yellow (state 1) and make that a value of 1
Select the color green (state 6) and make that a value of 0
Now we are going to add a new state
Go to edit->add state
Change state 8 color to orange
Change state 8 value to 0

Go to view->edit neighborhood values
Enter these values
Then click the apply button before clicking the close button
Now some side neighbors have the value of 5 and some diagonal neighbors
have the value of 1
Now we are going to try Brian's brain.
Select the color red from the color box
Hold down the ctrl key and fill the second row with the color red
Select the color yellow from the color box
The total value of 2 yellow diagonal neighbors is 2
Click on the table entry at the first row and the columon with the number 2.
The total value of a diagonal neighbor and a side neighbor is 6
Click on the table entry at the first row and the columon with the number 6.
The total value of 2 yellow side neighbors is 10
Click on the table entry at the first row and the columon with the number 10.

Go to file->new.
You should see a dialog box that says new universe.
Fill out the form on the
new universe dialog box as showed below

and click on apply.
You should now see a rectangle made out of random cells.
Press space bar many times to watch many gliders and ships appear.
You could try varaints of brian's brain by editing the rule table.
For example you can make the entry on the second row and the colmun with the
number 8 yellow.

Click the clear button on the dialog box that says new universe
Go to table->clear used table. a box will appear asking you how many
generations to calculate.
Open the tool box by going to view->tool box
Draw the glider.

Click on the table in the tool box to select the table tool
You should see squares on the glider and some big squares in the rule table too.
A tiny square means the entry never has been used.
A big square means the entry will be use for the first time when it calculates the next generation.
Note: the status bar should say "tool: table" when you do this step below.
Press ctrl-g to see 1 generation ahead.

Press ctrl-g again to see the current generation.
With the table tool, you can click any cell with a square and it will change
the entry it gets it's next state from.
Press the space bar. you should see a glider move.
If you want, you can get rid of these squares in the rule table by going to edit->fill used table.
Here is how to get a rule table that has random entries
go to file->options
Here you can choose the random rule table sparseness.
You can also check the clear table first checkbox.
If the clear table first checkbox is checked then
random rule table sparseness is what percentage of the entries that change to black.
Otherwise, it is what percentage of the entries that stay the same
Go to table->randomize rule table or press ctrl-r.
The randomize rule table dialog box will appear.
The randomize rule table dialog box lets you choose the seed, the row range,
and the state range.
Click on the randomize button to get a random rule table.
Tip: if randomize rule table dialog box is visible then you can also
