Welcome to Frank's Java Cellular Automaton Program 1.8 or later

This tutorial is about the rule named Brian's brain.

Open the color box by going to view->show color box

Open the rule table window by going to view->show rule table.

Move the yellow entry on the first row from colunm 6 to colunm 4.

Select red from the color box.

Make every entry on the second row, red, while holding down the ctrl key.

Draw this glider below

Press the X key to save this generation to the stack.

Press the space bar to watch it move.

Press the Z key to go back to the last generation saved.

Add a red cell and a yellow cell to the glider.

Now lets copy the glider.

Select the glider.
You can hold down the ctrl key while you select the glider.
You can use the select tool from the toolbox.

Hold down the ctrl key while you move the block with the mouse.
Tip: you can also use ctrl-C and ctrl-V to copy and paste.

Now lets rotate the selected glider.

Use the ctrl-d key or the ctrl-f key to rotate it.

Press the enter key to watch the 2 gliders move and collide.
You can also move the selected glider and use the Z key to go back to
the last generation saved.

If the 2 gliders are an even cell distance away then they just disappear.

If the 2 gliders are an odd cell distance away then they both turn as showed below.

Press ctrl-z to flip the selected glider vertical.

Move the selected glider so it is in the exact same place as showed in this image below.

Press the enter key to watch a new glider appear.
These 2 gliders disappear and a new glider appears.
The new glider is showed below

Draw an glider next that new glider and select it.

You can move that glider around and try different positions.
Press the X key to save this generation to the stack.

Press the enter key to watch.
Press the Z key to go back to the last generation saved.
